Garlic and Bluebells in the Wolds

'Springtime in the woods'
'Springtime in the woods'

Just like buses. No horizontal images for months and then two come along in quick succession.

Last Sunday morning I managed a couple of hours just after dawn out with Paul Moon visiting his local woods. The woods are not managed and as a result have a wonderful overgrown feel to them which is very atmospheric, though a nightmare compositionally.

I made a couple of images. The first image (at the top of the page) I am really pleased with. What I love about this time of the year is the subtlety in the range of greens that can be found and it was this aspect I was particularly looking to highlight with this image. Early on there was a wonderful quality of soft, diffuse light that has worked well.

The second was made of a simply wonderful oak tree in the wood. A wonderful subject but a nightmare to handle compositionally.

I took a call to make a second horizontal image. I was trying to play the relationship between the branch and the two shrubs underneath it. I do like the light but have that nagging feeling I should give this subject another go.
